Versatility, passion, and creativity are hairdresser ROD ORTEGA’s guiding principles, reflected in both his life and his work. Dividing his time between films, television, print editorial and advertising work, the bicoastal hairdresser is in high demand due to his iconic work with such beauties as Jennifer Lopez, Amber Valetta, and Blake Lively. Adept at cutting, coloring and extensions, Ortega finds his inspiration in old studio-era movies and by studying the work and techniques of his predecessors in film and fashion. “I am fascinated by women like Ava Gardner and Rita Hayworth,” Ortega relates. “They had that studio-era glamour, but also a certain modernity because of their on-screen sensuality and uninhibited sexuality.”

Ortega’s work has been recognized by Allure, InStyle, Vogue, Vanity Fair and Elle. His clientele includes Oscar-winners Jodie Foster and Helen Hunt, as well as Kristen Stewart, Eva Mendes, and Sharon Stone. A two time Emmy award-winner, Ortega is also a prominent player at New York’s annual Fashion Week, showing his skills with designers including Oscar De La Renta, Vera Wang, Michael Kors, and Derek Lam. His styling of clients for red carpet and press appearances has made some of the most trend setting styles seen today.
